Kitchen Remedies for Dry Hair

Many women and men, too are troubled with dry hair, which often is damaged hair as well. Is it damaged because it is dry, or is it dry because it is damaged? Dry hair can be a vicious circle that’s difficult to escape from, but it can be done. The mistake most people make is going to the store and spending a great deal of money on various and sundry products that are supposed to help them do away with their dry hair problem. Over a period of time, they try them all, and lo and behold they still have dry hair!

The problem with this approach is twofold. Number one, these folks are plastering their dry hair with all sort of concoctions without giving the one they tried before the one they are trying now a chance to work! Number two, they are spending an awful lot of money when there is really no need to do so. Not when there are some many wonderful home remedies right in your kitchen, or at the grocery store that you can purchase for very little money. You will be absolutely amazed when you see the results of some of these remedies on your dry hair!

Everyone has heard of a hot oil treatment for dry hair. However, it seems like those little tubes of oil you can purchase for this purpose just aren’t enough sometimes, especially if your hair is long. And, if you go to a salon, the price is as high as a kite! What to do? Introduce your dry hair to the wonders of mayonnaise! A mayonnaise treatment will miraculously turn straw-like hair into soft, sleek, shiny, beautiful tresses that you will love! And it’s so easy to do, too.

You will need mayonnaise, a hair clip, and a plastic bag that is large enough to fit over your head. To start, put the mayonnaise on dry hair. Dry hair only, please! If you put mayonnaise on damp hair, the water somehow reacts with the oil that’s in the mayonnaise, and it is really hard to wash out!

Avoid your roots if you have oily hair. Be generous on the rest of your hair, especially on the ends. Cover your head with the plastic bag, and clip the ends of the bag with the hair clip to hold the bag closed. Now, heat a towel in your clothes dryer or microwave. When it’s nice and warm, wrap it around your head and the plastic bag, too. Sit down and relax for about 30 minutes or so, and let the mayonnaise and the heat do its amazing thing on your dry hair!

After 30 minutes are up, it’s time to wash out the mayonnaise, but do know that you need to follow these directions in order to get all of the oil out of your hair in the shortest amount of time. Using your regular shampoo, apply it to your mayo-ed hair and rub gently. You won’t see a lot of lather, but that’s fine. Rinse as usual, then shampoo again. This second shampoo will get all of the oil out. That first waterless wash seems to get the biggest of the oil out very handily! If your hair is still a bit too oily to suit you, you may shampoo again until the hair is just like you want it. Some dry hair will soak up more of the mayonnaise than other hair will, so it’s impossible to know who will need just one shampoo, who will need two, etc

As an alternate method for severely dry hair, you may leave the mayonnaise in overnight. Instead of a plastic bag, you’ll want to invest in a plastic shower cap that will stay on your head throughout the night, so as not to spoil your bed clothes with the oily mayonnaise. The hot towel step can be omitted. Next morning, shampoo your hair according to the above directions. Once you have shampooed out all the oil, you may go ahead and dry or style your hair as usual.

Another alternate mayonnaise method is to mix one ripe, mashed avocado with about ½ cup mayonnaise. Slather this mixture all over your dry hair, again avoiding the roots. Most people who have dry hair don’t have dry roots. However, if your scalp is dry and flaky, and you are bothered with dandruff, you may want to place the mayo-avocado mixture on your scalp as well, as this concoction will also help you to get rid of a dry scalp and dandruff. Cover your head with a plastic bag, then clip the ends of it with a hair clip so it will stay on your head. After about 30 minutes, shampoo the mixture out of your hair, using the same shampooing method as above. Dry hair will be a thing of the past after using this mixture!

Here is a recipe for dry hair that really works well, and you probably have the ingredients in your kitchen right this minute! Beat one egg, one tablespoon of olive oil, and ¼ of a medium cucumber in a food processor or blender. Place this mixture on your hair, and leave it for about 10 minutes or so.
